Since its inception, Awake has explored a vision where craftsmanship and time are intimately connected, and the Sơn Mài – FRAGMENTS collection represents a remarkable continuation of that journey. Blending traditional Vietnamese lacquer, natural mother-of-pearl, and the ancient Japanese art of Raden, Awake creates a mesmerizing dial where light, texture, and color come together in perfect harmony. Each dial is a handcrafted iridescent mosaic that captures and refracts light, transforming every passing second into a moment of quiet reflection and beauty.

Inspired by centuries-old craftsmanship from Hanoi, the dial is created using the refined Vietnamese lacquer technique known as Sơn Mài. The lacquer itself is derived from the sap of the Rhus verniciflua tree, harvested only in small quantities after years of growth and carefully purified to achieve extraordinary clarity and brilliance. Skilled artisans then select mother-of-pearl fragments individually, placing them by hand to form a luminous mosaic whose colors shift and evolve with every change of light. The result is a living dial—sometimes reminiscent of calm waters, sometimes like a twilight sky—where organic materials and light create a miniature landscape of remarkable depth.

Each dial requires nearly fifteen hours of meticulous handwork, followed by the application of numerous layers of lacquer that are dried, sanded, and polished to reveal an extraordinary sense of depth and shine. The watch is housed in a refined 39mm case crafted from recycled 316L stainless steel and protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
