Grand Seiko Elegance 18k Gold Stem Winding – SBGK004

Grand Seiko’s SBGK004 is a Limited Edition of 150 pieces and part of the Elegance Collection. It is housed in a 39mm 18K rose gold case that is a slim 11.6mm in height and 44mm lug to lug, with a box shaped sapphire crystal and push down crown. Grand Seiko equips this classically sized dress or daily wear watch with the smooth hand winding movement, the Caliber 9S63, with 72 hours of power reserve and an accuracy rating of +5 / -3 seconds per day. This hand assembled and adjusted movement is visible behind a sapphire case back and includes both small seconds and a power reserve indicator.

Grand Seiko is known for intricate dials and incredible casework utilizing Zaratsu polishing to create a mirror finish. This classically curved dial is made from a special lacquer mixed with iron ore, giving it a deep jet-black color. The dials finish showcases the Japanese craft of Urushi lacquer, using a transparent and long lasting urushi that comes from trees grown around the town of Joboji near Mt. Iwate, which dominates the skyline about Studio Shizukuishi. The hour markers and GS logo are decorated using the traditional Maki-e technique by Urushi master Isshu Tamura in his studio in Kanazawa on the west coast of Japan’s main island. Tamura applies powdered 24K gold or platinum to the markers before polishing them by hand to create the same delicate shimmering appearance despite the curved surface they are mounted on. This very special Grand Seiko comes on an alligator strap and matching pin buckle.
