Grand Seiko Elegance "Skyflake" Spring Drive – SBGA407

Grand Seiko’s SBGA407 is part of the Elegance Collection and is often referred to as commonly referred to as the “Skyflake” or “Blue Snowflake”. The Skyflake is housed in a 40.2mm stainless steel case that is 48.5mm lug to lug, with a curved sapphire crystal and push down crown, still providing 100m of water resistance. The Spring Drive 9R65 Caliber (assembled and adjusted by hand at the Shinshu Watch Studio) provides a smooth sweeping seconds hand with an astonishing precision of +/- 15 seconds per month, unprecedented for a watch powered by a mainspring. This beautiful movement provides 72 hours of power reserve, is anti-magnetic, and is visible behind a sapphire case back.

Grand Seiko is known for intricate dials and incredible casework utilizing Zaratsu polishing to create a mirror finish. This watch possesses a version of one of the most well-known dials of the collection. The Shinshu Studio is surrounded by the Hotaka mountains that are covered in snow for several months a year. The texture of the dial is inspired by this snow being driven across the slopes by the crisp, dry wind, rendered in the beautiful light blue of fresh snow. A heat-blued steel seconds hand and “Spring Drive” in blue adds further visual interest. The case of the SBGA407 is suited to being a dress or daily wear watch, given it’s robust movement and water resistance. This Grand Seiko comes on a matching blue crocodile strap and push-button deployant clasp.
