OMEGA Aqua Terra Titanium Worldtimer Review: The Ultimate Lightweight Traveler’s Watch

OMEGA Aqua Terra Titanium Worldtimer Review: The Ultimate Lightweight Traveler’s Watch

When it comes to OMEGA timepieces, there is one that seems to have slipped under the radar when it was released alongside its green Worldtimer counterpart, the OMEGA Aqua Terra Titanium Worldtimer.

Its lightweight Grade 2 titanium construction and sleek ceramic bezel are impressive. Aesthetically, this timepiece stands out with its stunning laser-ablated depiction of Earth from above the North Pole, etched into the center of the dial. The black and gray accents, combined with the non-reflective titanium, give this watch an understated, semi-stealthy appearance.

Omega Aqua Terra Titanium Worldtimer Specs:

  • Case Thickness: 14.4mm

  • Lug-to-Lug: 49.3mm

  • Lug Width: 20.9mm

  • Crystal Diameter: 35.5mm

  • Weight: 94.13 grams

This watch features a Grade 2 titanium case with a black ceramic bezel and a brushed finish across the entire case. The sides are fully brushed and the screw-down crown at the 3 o’clock position is stamped with the iconic OMEGA logo.

Worldtimer Function: Simple and Intuitive

Operating the Worldtimer function is straightforward. For example, if you want to track Tokyo time, simply align Tokyo with the “24” marker on the disc, and set your hour hand to your local time. It is a quick, easy setup.

Dial Design: Sleek and Functional

Its dial is a sophisticated gray with a sand-like texture. The OMEGA logo is black at the top, with “Seamaster” in gold beneath of it. The markers are wedge-style and blackened. The 24 world time zones are marked around the edge of the dial. Each zone is alternated with either a marker or a small black triangle.

The most prominent change to the dial compared to previous iterations is the time zones that are all printed in white, except for London, which is red. Unfortunately, this removes the functionality of differentiating daylight saving time zones (previously in gray) or GMT time zones (previously in blue).

Blackened, Dauphine-style hands with arrows at the tips of both the minute and second hands add to the stealthy motif of this Seamaster. At the center of the dial is the Worldtimer ring, which is protected by glass and divided into day and night hours.

One of the most striking characteristics of this model is its laser-ablated globe at the center which depicts Earth as seen from above the North Pole. It is created through a chemical reaction between the laser and the titanium. The globe fades from black to gold, making it a unique, stunning design feature.

The date appears at the 6 o’clock position with a black background, white numerals, and no frame. “TI”, appearing at the bottom right,  is used to signify the use of titanium.

Lume: Light Up the Night

Soft, light blue lume is featured on all of the markers. This lume is also on the hour and minute hands and significantly enhances the visibility in low-light conditions.

Movement: Omega Caliber 8938

The Aqua Terra Titanium Worldtimer is powered by OMEGA’s in-house Caliber 8938. This automatic movement features a co-axial escapement and offers a 6-8 year service interval, which is longer than the typical 3-5 years for most watches.

As a Certified Master Chronometer, the Caliber 8938 has been METAS-certified for accuracy within 0 to 5 seconds per day. It is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss (the strength of an MRI machine), and has a 60-hour power reserve. The “38” in the movement name refers to this being the Worldtimer version of the 8900 movement.

Strap: Comfort Meets Style

The Aqua Terra comes with a black rubber strap that features a woven wicker-basket pattern in the center and gray stitching along the edges. The titanium endlink inserts are a signature feature of the Aqua Terra line and can be removed if desired. The titanium buckle is a folding-pusher style that routes the strap’s tail underneath the wrist, giving it a sleek, tail-less look. These premium design elements effectuate a comfortable fit well-suited for the average wrist.

Water Resistance and Price

This watch has a solid 150 meters of water resistance, making it versatile for everyday wear. The OMEGA Aqua Terra Titanium Worldtimer is priced at $12,400.

Final Thoughts

The combination of black and gray with Grade 2 titanium is a design that is subtle, yet still visually striking, especially with the laser-ablated globe at the center. This timepiece is notably lightweight, and may have to be felt up-close to truly appreciate.

Its rubber strap is incredibly comfortable on the wrist, and the overall design is both practical and stylish. The addition of the ceramic bezel adds a layer of protection from scratches, setting this model apart from the original blue version, which does not have that feature.

OMEGA made this model lightweight, water-resistant up to 150 meters, and most importantly, comfortable for daily wear and travel.
