Grand Seiko Elegance Stem Winding – SBGK017

The SBGK017 is a US Special Edition and part of the Elegance Collection. It is housed in a 39mm stainless steel case that is a slim 11.6mm in height and 44mm lug to lug, with a box shaped sapphire crystal and push down crown. Grand Seiko equips this classically sized dress or daily wear watch with the smooth hand winding movement, the Caliber 9S63, with 72 hours of power reserve and an accuracy rating of +5 / -3 seconds per day. This hand assembled and adjusted movement is visible behind a sapphire case back and includes both small seconds and a power reserve indicator.

Grand Seiko is known for intricate dials and incredible casework utilizing Zaratsu polishing to create a mirror finish. This classically curved dark dial takes its inspiration from “Nanbu Tekki” ironware, traditional metalworking produced in the city of Morioka in Iwate prefecture. This renown handcraft dates to Japan’s Edo period (1603 – 1868) and continues today, prized for its beauty and durability. The distinctive texture on this ironware, called “arare” (for hailstone) provides a canvas for razor sharp dauphine hands, with hand-bent minute and power reserve hands. This Grand Seiko comes on a silky nine-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp and can work beautifully as a dress or elegant daily wear watch.
